This weekend we had the pleasure of attending the Western WA State Fair (aka “The Puyallup” – pronounced Pew-al-up).? We missed this event last year seeing as we were in Russia and all.? This is an event that the trusty husband and I only visit every other year or so.? We invited the trusty in-laws figuring that if we significantly outnumbered the boy we would have an easier time than we did at the CA State Fair.
The Puyallup is just as good for people watching, but somehow I was more enthralled with grange displays to notice any truly classics.? Sure, we have our fair share of mullets, short shorts in the over 30 set and skanky hos, but there are far more pasty white people and birkenstocks with socks.
We toured the exhibition halls and resisted the urge to get sucked in by a chamois that will hold the contents of the ocean (get it… sucked in).? The trusty MIL got all excited when I casually mentioned that I wanted to buy the child a pair of Crocs.?? Secretly I wanted orange ones, but I wasn’t going to spend that much on kid’s shoes.? So what does the MIL do?? She buys my son a pair of Crocs.? The trusty husband got his way because the only pair they had in his size were dark blue.? Less offensive that way.
While Derek and I sampled loads of honey the trusty in-laws purchased my child a car that follows any dark line.? Pretty cool toy actually.
The highlight of the the fair was the John Deere display.? We spent a good 20 minutes there.? The boy had to sit on every last tractor they had.? Twice actually.? Lucky for me across the walk was a greenhouse display.? So while the trusty MIL entertained the child I got to hear a spiel on the most fantabulous greenhouses evah!? I. want. one.
No trip to the fair would be complete without food.? (I have photos, but the trusty husband still has my card reader)? We dined on Famous Fair scones, Dairy Bar ice cream and BBQ Beef Sandwiches.? I missed out on a Krusty Pup (corn dog) and right around bed time I told D that I was hungry.? At the same time we both said, “shoulda had that Krusty Pup.”
A fun time was had by all and I only had one minor panic attack somewhere around the miracle vinyl siding and ginsu knives.? Will we go back next year?? We have a child now.? We are obligated to visit the fair every year now.
Gotta love that greasy fair food….. if only once a year
Thanks for the new blog look.. I cannot tell you enough how much I love it.
I’m doing the fair today with a friend and seeing one of the Old American Idols perform. I can hear the elephant ears calling my name and I’m sure I’ll be sick by tonight! Sounds like once again you had lots of fun!
I love a good fair…the best I have been to…by far the best…Minnesota State Fair. I mean the best…it is very very kid oriented..Spencer loves it…we have been there twice..now the Illinois fair is OK and the Wisconsin fair is OK but MN if your there you gotta go….
sounds like you had your fill of grease and Birkenstock’s…even your own in the socks and all..
This is such a great depiction (sp) of the Puyallup Fair. We are going Saturday.
Isn’t the Boy’s b-day coming up October 19, 20, 21??
Maybe next year we can go with you!
Yeah, but was there any swoobs, swack, or swutts involved? 🙂
Nope, no swoobs, swack nor swutt.
