Say it ain’t so

The boy’s naps are getting shorter and shorter. Putting him down is getting progressively more difficult. It took me nearly an hour yesterday. The two of us were bitching and moaning at each other and by gawd he was not going to win. I made a threat I didn’t want to keep so I fought him tooth and nail. I usually don’t threaten unless I’m willing to pay the price too, but sometimes telling your child he can’t play in the pool unless he naps gets him to sleep. On a good day that threat gets him to sleep in under 2 minutes. Yesterday, two trips to bed awake, rocking in his crib for 1/2 an hour and I walked in to check on him. “Hi, Mama!” Oh no he di’int. Pluck him out of the bed and he whispers, “go pool.” Um. no. “WHAAAA” asleep 2 minutes later.

Today he fell right to sleep, but pulled the I’m going to wiggle, cry and be stiff as a board. Can’t put this kid in the bed at nap time awake. He won’t sleep. Trust me, I’ve tried. So now it’s been less than an hour and he’s awake. Feck.

It could have something to do with the fact that our house is 400 degrees. Maybe? Gah, he’s got a ceiling fan, what more does he want? I am just afraid that he’s starting to give up his nap. Say it ain’t so. I’m not ready for that. I get 1 hour of respite in the day. That’s it. I’m not ready to give it up.

Sure it would be nice not to be constrained by a mid afternoon nap, but if he doesn’t nap he’s a cranky poo. Hell, I’m a cranky poo if I don’t nap. Ok, I don’t nap during the day, but if I could by gawd I have a hammock in the back yard calling my name.

Wanna see my hammock? And yes, that stool is there for me to get into it.

When it’s this hot sometimes they just can’t nap cause of the heat. Better to let him play in the pool and stay cool and maybe…just maybe…he’ll go to bed a little bit earlier.

  4. Hey that hammock makes a NICE slingshot for those neighbors…

Hammock looks great! I’ve been trying to figure where I can put one for years and now I know all I need is another post on my pergola and I can bask in the shade of my sweet autumn clematis. Great kids pool too!

  6. WOW! That’s impressive! When you were describing the project, I had no idea it was going to be that involved. With hesitation I say, “you go girl!”

Cool hammock…. nap time struggles are the worst and worth every fight for the respite you so deserve…

    hang in there

  8. I envy you your hammock, but not your napless boy! We are feeling that, here. Lids has recently given up her nap–or better put will nap on her own terms maybe twice per week. It can be so hard not getting that break in!
