Some kind of illness is floating around out there.? It strikes quickly, knocks you on your ass for a few days and then you feel better.? Very odd.? It struck me midway through the Vice Presidential debate Thursday night.? It rendered me useless most of Friday and all of Saturday and today I’m feeling pretty decent.? I am assuming the boy now has it or had it right before me or has it again because well… he’s just not himself.? The child rarely throws food anymore, but he does when he’s not feeling well.? I handed him the snack he asked for, I turned around and the child promptly hucked the cup of goldfish crackers at me.? He has been screaming and whining at us all day despite our best efforts to ignore the behavior.? Needless to say the day did not start off good.
Then I had to run out to the fabric store to purchase something for a bag I was trying to finish (should be listed later this week).? While I sat down to look at pattern books my phone rang.? No one calls my cell phone so it couldn’t be good.? Oh buddy, did I not grasp the gravity of how not good that phone call would be.
It was my mom.
“Lisa, Leo’s in the hospital.”
For those of you just catching up Leo is my 3 1/2 month old nephew.
Leo was with a babysitter and the babysitter put him in his car seat and set the car seat on a chair.? A dog ran by and bumped the chair thus causing the car seat to fall with my baby nephew in it.? The babysitter did not rush the baby to the hospital right away because evidently he seemed fine, just a little bruise.? By the time my sister got there there was some swelling on his head and Little rushed her son to the emergency room as any sane person would do when an infant is dropped on their head.? Xrays and MRIs showed a small skull fracture and a slow bleeding on the brain.? The good news is that he’s been moved out of the ICU and he is going for another MRI today (I think) and we are now just waiting to hear the result.
There was an investigation into if this was truly an accident or some kind of abuse.? Fortunately (or not) it was just an accident.
But for now my baby sister is sitting in a hospital with her baby boy hoping that he recovers from this.? And I am sitting helplessly at my house waiting for the phone to ring.
*Latest update: This afternoon’s MRI shows no actual skull fracture, but two bleeds on the brain.? They are keeping him for at least one more night as the tech to read the MRI won’t be in until tomorrow.? For now he’s stable and Little is finally getting some sleep.
Wow. How very scary. Hope he’s okay.
Oh no. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that everything will be OK.
Oh my goodness, how terrifying for your whole family. Your little nephew will be in my thoughts tonight. Please let us know how he is doing.
I know how terrifying that can be as we spent one VERY LONG Thanksgiving in the hospital with my niece who had a skull fracture. I’m sorry that you are having to deal with this one top of having a mystery bug making the rounds! Sending good thoughts your way pronto!
wow, scary stuff. keep us posted.
What a sucky day! I hope you have heard some good news about your nephew.
I have to thank you for your summary of the debates. Everything is on at stupid hours here so I miss everything. I totally agree about the “Darn It” thing. She was fine to me at first, but now I can’t stand to listen to her.
so scary, hope the little guy heals quickly
you have to be soo careful with baby babies. sending my best for a very uneventfully quick recovery for your nephew!
No skull fracture, baby’s now home with mom, and we are all breathing a sigh of relief! Thanks for all your thoughts!
How awful! I can’t even imagine having my tiny baby in the hospital! Ugh.
And the eyeball is freaking me out a bit.
Oh my! Glad it’s not a skull fracture, but I will sure pray everything turns out ok. It just makes me sick that people do so many stupid things without ever thinking of the consequences….a baby on a chair in his carseat???
