In the nursery business the busiest day of the year is the day before Mother’s Day. ?We work very hard to prepare for this one day of the year and once it is over we let out a huge sigh of relief. ?Mother’s Day Sunday is often also busy, but not as bad as the Saturday before.
Yesterday I worked from 9:45 to 6:15 without ever sitting down. ?I didn’t take the time to eat lunch (good thing I had a giant breakfast). ?It isn’t that I wasn’t allowed to sit down. ?That is just the way I am. ?I snacked a bit in between customers, but it never hit me that I was tired or hungry until we closed. ?After work I walked up to a friend’s house for dinner and there was a (many) glass of wine waiting for me.
Normally that would be the end to my busy Mother’s Day…
However, I had to be up at 5:45 this morning to be at the church at 6:30 to cook breakfast for 250 people. ?I worked the kitchen from 6:30 to 12:30 today.
When I got home the trusty husband ran to the store to get stuff for lunch while I went out into the garden to do some watering. ?There I found that the dog had eaten every last bloom off of my giant peony bush. ?The one pictured here. ?I sat down on the bench and started to cry.
Once I got over that I had a lovely lunch of hotdogs and tots with the boys in the back yard. ?Might have been not so healthy food, but it was the first real meal I’d had today. ??The boys gave me wonderful Mother’s Day gifts. ?The boy picked out a lavender candle and the trusty husband gave me a Sephora gift card. ?They know me so well.
I then tried to muster all of my strength to work in the garden with the trusty husband. ?I so badly want to finish our vegetable garden so I can start moving things out of the greenhouse. ?However, exhaustion got the better of me and I gave up quickly and took a nap.
For dinner the trusty husband gave me the option of steaks on the grill or pizza from one of my favorite pizza places. ?I opted for the pizza. ?We sat down to dinner and the boy really wasn’t eating. ?He complained of his stomach hurting.
Now I should give you a little back story at this point.
While I was at the church cooking the boy was at home with the trusty husband and they had an issue where the boy didn’t quite make it to the potty in time. ?Potty emergencies happen and we didn’t think much about it. ?While I was napping, the boy told the trusty husband that his tummy wasn’t feeling great and he wanted to go in and watch a movie and rest.
Now back to the dinner…
The boy wasn’t eating and so he sat with us on the couch. ?Cried a little bit that his tummy hurt. ?We gave him some gas medicine, he laughed and passed quite a bit of gas. ?Cried a little more, passed a little more gas. ?Then he really started to complain. ?We asked if he felt like he needed to throw up and he said no. ?As he was saying no I heard that sound. ?The sound that every mom knows. ?The sound that your child is going to give you the best Mother’s Day gift ever. ?And that is when he projectile vomited all over me.
Happy Mother’s Day.
Hope you all are feeling better
Happy Mothers day
Motherhood and the joys of puking 🙁
Poor O! Poor mommy! Hope he feels better today!
Hey – I got vomited on for mothers day too! Lovely isn’t it? Ha.
Sorry…at least mine occurred after a relaxing day w/friends rather than after a long day working.
Regardles of how your day went, you are still a world class mom, and a worthy example for other parents.
Happy belated, Mother’s Day!
Oh no! I don’t know which is worse, the vomit, or the peony bush eating by the dog – which would have made me cry too! Poor you. You still deserve a big Happy Mother’s Day, though it sounds a little silly, knowing how the day went down. =)
