We were sitting at the spray park yesterday afternoon with friends and Joel looked at Derek and said, “I wish that girl who writes Life of Elle would update her blog once in a while.” Here you go Joel. An update.
Then we all started talking about blogging. Over the years Joel has started to write a blog and failed… multiple times. Derek once wrote a blog and then he stopped. Although I don’t know why because the concept could have made us a lot of money. However, if things go as they have he may resurrect it for next year’s presidential election (*cough*cough* Michelle Bachman).
Anyway, the point of the conversation was that it seems easier to blog when you have a specific topic to write about. For years I had the adoption and aftermath to write about. It was a focused topic that I could throw a personal story into when it came up. It made me seem like a better writer than I really am. Now that life is life it becomes more difficult to write about just that.
Sure the story about how we put the burning fire pit onto Oleg’s wagon and wheeled it down to the neighbor’s house on the 4th of July is a great story, but it’s short and way better if you were there. There’s also the story of how I make an attempt to do laundry every Monday and Tuesday, but really I don’t and so Derek has to do it sometime around Saturday. Now isn’t that gripping.
Rest assured, I’m not having fun without you. I’m maintaining. There is a lot going on, but the time I have to tell you about it is very limited. I’ve said it before, I hate when bloggers don’t write for a long time and then apologize for not writing promising they’ll be better and then still don’t write. I’m not that kind of blogger. I write when I have time.
Blogging made my brain cells stir, which was not a bad thing, but it still stole time. Funny stories about grocery horror seemed to alleviate the pressures that go with it. Yet it was a chore sometimes to post. Writing not because I wanted to, but to please others. Blogging is fun or it should be. Don’t let others pressure a woman who is working and keeping up with family duties. (sorry Joel) It’s YOUR blog! Write when you want. 🙂
I was pretty sure that Lisa knew I was teasing, but I appreciate the public humiliation all the same. I am very lucky to have friends like Lisa and Derek. I love them to pieces.
I know that Joel and allow me to add they are lucky to have a you as a friend! 🙂
Joel, I knew you were teasing.
