Burny goodness

With my recent onset of bitchy (in which I went postal on my husband last night) I am in need of some relief.? I was so desperate for candy yesterday I resisted the urge to raid the boy’s treat bucket and opted for a gigantic Hershey bar.? Do you know how disgusting Hershey’s chocolate actually is?? Not to mention it was a chocolate bar I won at a Christmas party.? Yep.? A Christmas party.

This morning I ate 2 snickerdoodle cookies.? They were store bought from Safeway.? And I liked them.? I also had a 2nd cup of coffee and it didn’t effect my hyperactivity level at all.? Something must be wrong.? Normally anything over my alloted one cup a day makes me all kinds of uppity.

Then this afternoon I ate leftover Panang Curry and pretty much licked the bowl clean.? I didn’t even bother with rice.? That would just dull the burny curry goodness.

Hot food is my comfort food.? We aren’t talking Mexican spicy that burns on the return visit the next morning.? This is burn your lips off Asian hot.? I luuuurves me some hot curry.? I could mix coconut milk, and curry paste and add a banana for a breakfast shake.

I know I’m a little odd.? Most people go for Mac and Cheese or fried chicken for comfort food.? Me?? Spicy Curry.? So let me have it… what are your favorite comfort foods?? When you are feeling down or homesick what is the one thing that makes it all better?

    Must. Have. Cheesy. Goodness.

Homemade mac & cheese, cheesy mashed potatoes, or just a huge wedge of Tillamook vintage white extra sharp with a crusty french roll… is it any wonder I still have 35 lbs to loose?

  3. For me comfort food is mood specific. Sometimes it is meatloaf and mashed potatoes. Sometimes mac & cheese. Sometimes it is Shrimp Pad Thai. Pasta almost always hits the spot, no matter the mood. Sometimes a nice hunk of good bread with some good olive oil with garlic and spices in it. And sometimes I need a hot fudge sundae.

i love cheesy foods like quesadillas & nachos!! : P also i love Ben & Jerry’s Cherry Garcia, or some kind of ice cream goodness!! basically, dairy & carbs!! : / hmmm, also no wonder why i need to lose weight!! but i’ve been cutting out the late-night carb binges, like a midnight bagel w/cream cheese!! and i’m trying to cut out all the high-quality/high-fat ice creams (do u know how EASY it is to eat a pint of that stuff?!). i’ve lost a few already, i can tell!!

  5. mmmm…angel hair pasta and a hearty tomato sauce topped with romano cheese…Greek appetizers that are pretty much dips you scoop up with toasted pita bread…whole wheat bagel toasted to perfection dripping with butter…now I’m friggin’ hungry.

(also…I’m catching up with blogs and watched your video with your “small” house. I got you beat girlie. My home consists of five rooms. And it’s filthy)

Tortilla chips with shredded melty cheese, jalapenos and sour cream. OR, just plain ‘ol chips and French Onion dip. OR, pepperoni pizza, extra cheese, and jalepenos (I get the spicy, just can’t do as much as the rest of you gals). MMMM…so yummmy.

  11. I have a couple. 1) Casseroles. A good down-home group of church fellowship casseroles. Doesn’t matter the kind, as long as there are a bunch of them. 2) finger foods – appetizers of almost any kind, as long as they do not involve seafood. and 3)chocolate cake with melted chocolate running out the center of it…served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Depends on the occasion & time of month, but I find comfort in almost any of these things.

I must say, no matter the time of year, a good macaroni or potato salad (has to be my Mom’s recipe), always makes my heart feel just a little lighter.

I am so happy to see that others find pad thai to be a comfort food. I’m the farthest shade of white from being Thai, and I don’t even know where, when, how, or why for I even discovered it. And also anything from my grandmother’s kitchen. Mmmmmmm, chicken noodles!

  14. Elle, I so understand how you feel. You and I seem to be kindred souls with this danm PMS stuff. I am a choco-holic. I become an absolute carb fiend every month. Not good for the ole diet. I am still battling 15 ponds and I am DAMN TIRED OF IT! I swear I am not buying new clothes to accomodate the excess butt though… I REFUSE! I have simply got to lose these pounds- PMS be damned! (Um, pizza, Mexican food, ice cream and french fries, Doritos, I love me some junk food!)

  15. Depends upon my mood, but recently it’s been cookie dough. I’ve been playing with a recipe, and its been made a lot due to fine tuning the recipe (good excuse, right?). Nothing like a good ol’ ego boost to help you out – she’s told me it’s better than sex! Popcorn, orange juice, and chocolate chips will do it just about any time, although I rarely have that combination in the house. When I’m sick, it’s my mom’s chicken soup; I have the recipe, but still can’t get it to come out right. She’s even watched me make it (from a roasted chicken to eating the soup), and can’t figure out why mine tastes different. Sigh. I’ll get it one of these days.
