Pie, Pie Me Oh My

It’s my birthday. I am officially into my thirties and you know I really like my thirties. That whole turning 30 thing last year freaked me the hell out, but now that I’m here and beyond I am glad. This year we aren’t having the big shindig that we did last year. The trusty husband invited a bunch of people over, but many have to work or out of town. Besides, he planned it for 5:00 on a Friday. Traffic around here on the weekend after school gets out is a nightmare. So I don’t blame people for not being able to make it.

So it will be us, D’s parents, Kathou, Paypay and Chickadee. Sounds just right to me. Tomorrow we are going to the Zoo with my parents. Hey, I like the zoo too. Remember, I’m the one who bought a kiddie pool with a gift certificate I got for Toys R Us.

My MIL asked me where I ordered my cake from. Last year I had to have a killer cake to celebrate my 30th birthday. I shelled out $80 for this little cake. It was the mother of all cakes. How deliciously yummy it was. *drool* But seeing as I’m not much of a cake person I am opting for pie this year.

I have a cousin who’s birthday is 2 days away from mine. As kids we celebrated on the same day. Our grandma would make a cake for her and a pie for me. But not just any pie. Rhubarb. Had to be rhubarb. Not that Strawberry-Rhubarb crap either. Straight rhubarb. D doesn’t like rhubarb pie so I never get to make it. The last one I made was with my sister years ago when we picked the stuff fresh out of mom’s garden. I have 2 rhubarb plants in my garden, but they yielded no usable stems this year. Our local veg market had huge stems so I bought a bunch. Therefore I am going to make my own birthday pie. And if no one else likes rhubarb tonight I may just eat the whole damn thing.

Happy Birthday! I’ll fly all the way out for a piece of that pie! It’s my favorite, too. And if you like rhubarb, I have lots of good recipes for that, too. Let me know.

  2. Happy Birthday!!! I have a summer birthday too and there’s never anyone around – but that’s okay, I like low-key celebrations too. I don’t think I’ve ever had a rhubarb pie. Is it better than chocolate? πŸ™‚

  3. Happy Birthday Lisa! I think I might just have to go hog wild on a 30th birthday cake for myself next April!

I love rhubarb pie too, but I haven’t had it in years. I think I forgot about it. Thanks for reminding me.
