It’s been 4 weeks since my first acupuncture appointment. I’ve had 3 appointments. I also drink the ass tea twice a day, take a B complex vitamin supplement and take 5-HTP. In that time I believe I’ve only tried to list my child on Ebay once, gotten angry at the trusty husband once and that was because it was late and the child was sick. Anyone would want to throw a rock at their spouse’s head given the situation.
All in all I’m happy that I started the acupuncture. Really happy.
But what I want to talk about is this thing called the Body Blues. If you remember I mentioned a book I was reading called When Your Body Gets the Blues. It was written by two nurses at the University of Washington. Great book. I do recommend you go buy it. Odds are you need it.
At this point, the rest of this post is geared toward women. I don’t want to exclude my male readers (all 3 of you), but I do want you to know this is girl stuff. Um, here’s a photo of a car just to make the guys happy.
Back to the important stuff…
So the book outlines some key symptoms of the Body Blues. Those symptoms would be:
Eating too much and gaining weight
Irritability or tension
Decreased interest in sex
Heightened sensitivity to rejection or criticism
I read this list and thought…hmm… sounds familiar. The only symptom I don’t have is the eating too much. I am the opposite. Either way it is interesting to find other women that have the same types of symptoms I do.
Good news ladies! You aren’t broken. And the fix. Super super easy. Now I could go into an old timey spiel and say, “step right up! Have I got the answer for you. Try auntie Elle’s new mental health tonic and you’ll be feelin’ fine!” Then I could blather on and say that you have to try this new program that I’m trying. You won’t regret it at all. But I’d sound like a dumbass.
Instead, I’m just going to say take a B complex vitamin, get out and get some sunshine and exercise at least 20 minutes a day. Simple as going for a walk. Trust me you’ll feel better.
